    How to tweak Reading tasks to enhance students' learning
    Let’s face it: most learners look at Reading as something not very exciting. And coursebooks don’t help this either, presenting the task in a rather repetitive way: read and answer comprehension questions. But what if Reading could turn from a passive into an active, or rather (inter)active skill? And develop a whole host of other skills simultaneously? My colleagues and I tried and tested several approaches to Reading that I will willingly share with you to jazz up your lesson plans.

    To b or not to d. Part 2: remastered and edited
    The importance of teaching students the correct way to form letters, especially b and d,
    often p and q, sometimes i, j and f. One effect of correcting various unconventional ways of
    writing these letters is a noticeable improvement in spelling overall but in particular in
    certain items that examiners do penalise. Another is that students who have corrected the
    formation of these letters seem to find it easier to understand how English works and are
    able to use the language more accurately and with greater facility

    Learners voice and video recordings as homework: might be useful?
    The talk covers our experience of setting homework requiring learners to make voice and video recordings and outlines possible benefits for our learners. First, I will explain what and why we ask learners to record, along with examples of our learners’ recordings in chronological sequence to see how their language has improved. Then, I will show how making recordings is most worthwhile in monolingual classes where learners have little exposure to English outside the classroom. It encourages them to speak English more between lessons and also helps learners reduce stress when speaking in L2
